In 2005, a small group of friends, had the idea of promoting a film festival in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, directed towards the fantastic genre. It was the first of its kind in Brazil.

  The festival started in only 2 cinemas in Porto Alegre in just 6 days in 2005. In 2008, the 4th edition of the festival will be held in 6 cinemas, during 14 days. Each year the festival is atracting a bigger audience, increasing its attractiveness for the genre film lover, and for general media, which fully support our independent initiative.

  Last year, in 2007 we had our first International Short Film Competition, and, in 2006, we had our first National Short Film Competition. We are ver excited about this year novelty: We are going to exhibit our first Feature Film Competition, presenting several films never exhibited before in Brazil, some in Latin America, and world premieres.

  We are a founding member of the recently created FantaFestivales (www.fantafestivales.org); An organizatiom directed towards the congregation of Latin America Fantastic Film Festivals.
 
  It's worth mentioning that, in this year, Fantaspoa was/will be present in other important festival around the world with special programs: RioFan (Rio de Janeiro); Macabro (México); Rojo Sangre (Argentina) and Mise-en-Scene’s Short Film Festival (South Korea).
